Illuminating Tradition of ‘Lighting Ledoux Street’ in Taos to Take Place on Dec. 12

Free Event Features Music, Fun at Area Businesses, Galleries

Taos, NM -- The Lighting of Ledoux Street in Taos - one of the most picturesque and festive holiday events in New Mexico - will take place on December 12th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The centuries-old tradition is one of the most breathtaking and memorable events in Taos, as Luminarias (brown paper bags lit with with votive candles) and Farolitos illuminate a number of courtyards along Ledoux Street and the surrounding area.
Several Taos galleries, salons and museums near and along Ledoux Street will be open during the event to celebrate with music, food and entertainment.

Participating businesses will include:
•    Rane Gallery hosting “the Paint People,” an exhibit of photo prints by Taos photographer, Te’ Zins. The exhibit forms the basis of the newly released art and poetry book titled:  The Masters Palette: Colors of Rane, featuring photographs of the paint tubes of the late Taos master painter, Bill Rane (1927-2005). The Gallery will also have music, accompanying haiku and refreshments. 214 Ledoux St (575) 758-0000;
•    The Harwood Museum of Art of UNM with homemade cookies, an open house in the Harwood’s Fern Hogue Mitchell Education Center with art activities for families and a special visit by Santa Claus at 5:30 p.m. with presents for all children. 238 Ledoux St (575) 758-9826;
•    Inger Jirby Gallery and Casitas featuring Jirby’s Fall and Winter Show along with flute music by Paul Jones. 207 Ledoux St (575) 758-7333;
