Town Unveils Return to Sacred Places Marketing Campaign for 2010
Press release 10/21/2009
After a successful FY 2009 Taos Summer of Love marketing campaign, the Town of Taos and its marketing team brainstormed, studied, surveyed over 350 travelers and talked to various marketing partners to create a new campaign for FY 2010 – “Return to Sacred Places.”
The Return to Sacred Places theme for Taos is a broad one, and directly speaks to what Taos is about for most of us. To a great extent one’s intent is what makes a place sacred. For visitors as well as Taoseños it might mean a favorite hiking trail, our glorious skies and sunsets, or that inner creative side of yourself you get to explore when you’re in a Taos art, music, writing, cooking or other type of workshop. It obviously also includes our special historic and tri-cultural destinations such as Taos Pueblo, Taos Plaza, and the acequia system, our museums and the Viet Nam Veterans National Memorial, as well as literal sacred locations such as our moradas, churches and temples.
The new marketing campaign will involve an aggressive regional, national and international public relations push, paid print and broadcast advertising as well as online advertising. The anchor of the program will be a sweepstakes featuring an all-expense paid, four-day trip for two to Taos, which will be given away at the end of August.
“Particularly today, as we all attempt to adjust to economic and societal challenges, places like Taos are of even greater value. They resonate with us as we examine what is important in our lives – as we focus on revisiting life’s priorities,” explained Taos Mayor Darren Cordova.
“Taos is a destination where travelers can refresh relationships and remember how to relax. It is a place where visitors are invited to explore ancient southwest architecture and history, authentic artistic culture, wild outdoor beauty – and inner life surprises. All this, wrapped around by world-class food, shopping, recreation, workshops, entertainment, and accommodations, makes us a top tourism choice,” said Taos Public Relations Manager Cathy Connelly.
Taoseños can learn more about the campaign at the newly launched website - www.TaosSacredPlaces.com. It will evolve as people contribute events, promotions, and stories. The town is requesting people submit their items by November 30,2009. Send the information to jgriffin@griffinassoc.com. For additional information, contact Joanie Griffin at (505) 261-4444.
